VIA VILA BRAZIL

The tough and compact fibre of the South American Peroba-Rosa-tree was planted at the turn of the century to get timber for the construction of ships and houses. In the meantime the slowly growing wood of the tree (Aspidosperma Polyneuron), reaching up to 40m, has been thrust aside by quicker growing wood, like the Eucalyptus. Elements of timber houses in Brazil from that time, like doors, frames, panelling, etc., made of solid Peroba-Rosa, are nowadays recycled instead of burning them. They are then converted into high quality furniture according to traditional design, showing traces of weather and erosion. The roseate to orange coloured wood offers excellent conditions for manufacturing and readily absorbs pigments. This wood is 40 to 80 years old and completely seasoned, thus avoiding warping and cracking.
Our manufacturing centre is in Brazil. We import furniture made from planks with remainders of original colours from houses painted in the colonial style, like rose, turquoise, blue, yellow, white or green. These unrivalled pieces of furniture reflect the whole richness of colonial colour charts and Latin American joy of living. Looking at them you see the traces of generations that used them.
Therefore each single piece is unique and a witness of the colonisation of Brazil by the Portuguese, thus representing a retrievable element of history.
